Placements
Everyone that attends ArtWorks gets the opportunity to take part in some fantastic volunteer placements. These placements are fully supported by the ArtWorks team and help our artists to build workplace skills, in a safe and supportive environment, whilst playing an active role in their community.
We run weekly volunteer placements with Wentworth Woodhouse. This placement includes learning about horticulture while helping to maintain the gardens and grounds of a major cultural landmark in Rotherham. If you like the outdoors and gardening this might be for you!
Sheffield DocFest is the UK’s leading documentary film festival. Each year the ArtWorks Collective helps with all aspects of the festival from working as Virtual Reality Technicians to Cinema Stewards. We also get to experience the festival firsthand. You might even spot a celebrity or two!
Our artists regularly practice facilitating creative workshops and social sessions in care homes, schools and other public places during the events we run. This is an opportunity for our artists to take on leadership roles, passing on their skills to the local community, and encouraging greater community cohesion.
In the beautiful setting of Storrs Wood, we get to spend time helping maintain and improve the woodland and creative habitats for the local wildlife. If you like nature and learning about wildlife then this is the perfect place to come. We even get the time out to light up the fire pit for toasted marshmallows.
We love volunteering at The Retired Greyhound Trust in Wortley. We get to walk these beautiful dogs in a safe calm environment up on the private estate. It's a great way to get some exercise in too! If you like animals as much as we do you'll love this opportunity to spend time with some lovable greyhounds.
At Thrybergh Country Park, our artists were involved in the 'Hope Fields' project, a living memorial to honour both the victims of COVID-19 and those who fought the virus. The ArtWorks artists were commissioned to create a beautiful new bird hide and activity boards. Our artists have also created a mosaic animal trail for Thrybergh Park to help make the outdoors more fun and enjoyable for local families.
Wayward is a London-based landscape, art and architecture practice, an award-winning collective of designers, artists and urban growers. Our artists worked with Wayward to help develop Pinball Park as part of the development of the Sheffield cultural quarter.
Site Gallery
We’ve worked with Site Gallery on multiple projects. This included documenting Tramlines festival with the young people who attend the ‘Society of Explorers’ and supporting the ‘City of Ideas’ project which aimed to ‘create new and accessible public art commissions animating existing spaces in the city centre’. Our artists worked as accessibility experts, informing this aspect of project planning.
